Wallet repair. Repairing damage to coin purse pockets [The work of a leather craftsman]

hello i am leather Workshop staff. It’s really heartbreaking when a beloved wallet or small item is damaged. Of course, Hallelujah also provides after-sales services such as repairs. This time we want to show you the work of some of the craftsmen in the leather workshop.

Repair the cracked part inside the wallet

The repair this time was that the lining of the coin pocket part of the wallet came off. It's really difficult to use in this state...
So let the craftsmen start repairing it now!

First, disassemble all the parts that need to be repaired

Since the upper part of the leather is folded back to sandwich the lining, it is not possible to repair only part of it with stitching. First, in order to re-clamp the lining, we will first carefully remove the sewn parts inside the body.

After cleanly removing the stitches, reattach the protruding lining. (I forgot to take a photo this time, but since the edges of the fabric were so frayed, we also attached reinforcing tape on the inside.)

Use adhesive to stick

Use rubber glue (rubber paste) commonly used when bonding leather products to temporarily fix the seamed parts. By the way, Hallelujah workshop mainly uses "strong and thick" glue.

The key points to use are:
① Apply thinly and evenly ② Apply to both sides of the joining side and the other side to be joined ③ Join when semi-dry

These three points are very important.

If the excess rubber glue spills out during bonding, it will cause the appearance of the finished product to be unsightly, so it needs to be applied thinly and evenly. In addition, rubber glue has strong adhesion, but it is also easy to tear off. Because of this, it is used to prevent the leather from shifting during stitching and also to facilitate re-fitting.

After the temporary fixation is completed, the next step is to suture.

Use a sewing machine to sew

Once the lining is securely clamped again, sew with a sewing machine.

Since the stitches have already been removed once, we sew along the original stitches to ensure that the repair marks are not obvious.

It was originally sewn with one seam, but since the lining was torn and a little shorter, we added another seam underneath to strengthen it.

Repair completed

The damaged pocket has been perfectly restored!

In this way, it can continue to be used for a long time.

The dismantled parts and the main body have been restored. In addition, for items sent for repair, we will not only inspect the parts that need to be repaired, but also inspect the entirety. If there is any damage, we will trim the threads or partially sew and repair them.

Depending on the condition of the leather, we will also apply oil to maintain it before returning it to you.

The condition of each item that needs repair is different. An approach had to be taken that was appropriate for the object, so I felt it was a more difficult job than I imagined.
