1. Use according to the effect! Leather care cream for leather care
Although it sounds like just "maintenance", there are various methods including wiping with a soft cloth, using a brush, and using leather care cream. This time we will focus on leather care cream. There are also different types of leather care cream that can be used depending on the effect.
First let’s take a look at the different types of leather care creams classified according to their effects.
1-2 emulsifying care cream
This is a care cream that provides high nutrition to leather. It has high penetrating properties, making it perfect for those who want to take careful care of their leather! There are two main types: bottles and tubes.
Collonil's SUPREME range is the highest quality leather care cream and is widely used by professionals.
1-3 waxy skin care cream
Wax care cream is a cream that adds luster to leather and is highly waterproof. Due to its low permeability, it is particularly suitable for caring for leather shoes etc. before going out. This kind of maintenance cream is very good at adding luster to leather and is also called "boot ink"
1-4 fine soft cream
Fine Soft Cream is particularly suitable for leathers with a matte texture, such as sheepskin (lambskin) and suede, which are softer than cowhide, as well as brown leather shoes that are quite light in color and are not easy to leave marks. Although it is less easy to produce gloss, it is also highly versatile.
2. Things you must know before using leather care cream!
After knowing that there are various types of leather care cream, we will introduce the things you need to pay attention to during use, as well as the frequency and timing of using leather care cream. Get some good knowledge before using it.
2-1. Effect after using care cream
The effectiveness of leather creams is affected by moisture, oil content and the characteristics of the leather type, but in general,
- Replenish moderate amounts of moisture and oil
- Make leather soft
- Effectively removes dirt and mold
- add shine
- Protects leather from scratches
It has this effect.
2-2. How often should leather care cream be used to be most effective?
Leather care cream does not require frequent application.
While this will vary depending on the type of leather, generally speaking, monthly maintenance will work best. If you want more meticulous care, you can do it about once every two weeks. Frequent use of maintenance cream may have an excessive impact on the leather and prevent it from being maintained in good condition, so please be careful. However, it is recommended to maintain the habit of wiping with a towel every day. Wiping or not wiping will affect the effect of monthly maintenance cream.
Wiping does not require too much effort and is recommended as a daily habit.
2-3. Things to note when using leather care cream.
When using leather care cream, if you do not consider the surface processing method of the leather, it may cause stains or color differences, which will ruin the appearance of the leather. Before applying any treatment, be sure to test it on an inconspicuous area to make sure there are no issues like fading or increased staining before full use.
Additionally, one of the biggest things to watch out for when handling leather is when the leather item gets wet from rain, etc. In this case, do not use high-temperature equipment such as a hair dryer to dry the leather. Drying at high temperatures can cause leather to shrink and harden, rendering it unable to withstand use. If the leather is damp, dry it in the shade in a well-ventilated area.
2-4. Things you need to prepare before nursing
——All the care products used in this treatment are from Collonil brand.
Collonil is a long-established manufacturer of the German company Zalzbronn with a history of more than 100 years, specializing in "footwear and leather" care products. This brand has a history of more than 100 years and is widely used in about 100 countries around the world.
① Dry cloth (soft cotton is best, but underwear that you don’t wear is also acceptable)
This cloth can be used for applying cream, finishing, wiping, etc. It is a multifunctional cloth. This time I used Collonil's "Polishing Cloth"
②Brush
Use when removing dust and surface grime, or when applying a nourishing cream to deeply penetrate and condition the surface. This time I used Collonil's "Horse Hair Brush."
③Care cream
Provides nutritional supplements to leather, giving it luster and moisture.
This time I used Collonil's "1909 Supreme Cream Deluxe". This is an advanced care cream with excellent penetrating power and contains ingredients such as cedarwood oil and ladarin.
④Waterproof spray
Use a spray as a final step to replenish nutrients. This time I used "1909 Supreme Protect Spray", which is a waterproof spray that contains cedar wood oil as a maintenance ingredient. It provides waterproofing without compromising breathability, while using cedar wood oil to replenish the leather's nutrients.
3. Practical application of nursing cream care
The one I used for reference this time is the Hallelujah "Full Leather Long Clip"
Made of leather that is prone to change (aging) over time, it will naturally age over time with regular use, so you can cultivate it into a wallet that suits your personal preferences through different care methods.
3-1. Brush
First, prepare to apply the care cream. Remove dust and dirt from leather products by using a brush
3-2. Wipe dry with soft cloth
After brushing, wipe it with a soft cloth made of natural materials to keep the leather surface clean.
3-3. Take appropriate amount of care cream
Use a dry cloth to take about 1cm of care cream.
3-4. Apply care cream
Finally it’s time to apply. Just use a circular motion to apply. Care cream will add nutrients to the leather and add luster. Don't miss the corners and apply gently to the entire wallet. (Based on 2-3, it is recommended to try applying it on an inconspicuous area of the leather product before applying it)
3-5. Brush again
Wait 5 minutes for the care cream to be fully saturated before using the brush again. After waiting, brush again with a brush in order to remove excess care cream or dust from the gaps in the leather products.
3-6. Dry again
After brushing, use a dry cloth to remove any remaining cream and dust.
3-7. Use waterproof spray
Before spraying the waterproof spray, double-check whether there is any dust on the leather product.
Pick up the wallet, hold it about 30 centimeters away, and then spray waterproof spray on the entire wallet surface. The key is to allow the surface of the wallet to dry naturally after a spray of waterproofing spray without touching it.
※If you touch the surface before the waterproof spray dries, fingerprints may remain. If you accidentally leave fingerprints, wipe them with a dry cloth and then spray waterproofing agent again.
Wait until it dries and repeat the steps of spraying the waterproof spray again. Repeat twice to improve the waterproofing effect. Caring for leather products after they get wet is the most troublesome.
Please be sure to follow this step carefully.
The timing of supplementary application of waterproof spray is before or after applying the care cream, both are fine. It depends on whether you value the effectiveness of a cream or a waterproof spray more.
4-1.Cleaner
This product is used to remove dirt. There are different forms such as tubes, bottles, aerosol (spray) and eraser types. Its properties are weakly acidic, neutral and alkaline. Alkaline has the strongest cleaning power, but it needs to be used with caution as it may cause the leather to fade.
In addition, there are some products that claim to be waterproof, brightening, soft, anti-mildew and maintenance effects in addition to cleaning stains.
4-2. Protective oil
Available in paste, liquid, semi-solid and aerosol forms, these products add softness to leather and prevent it from cracking
4-3. Waterproofing agent
Aerosol dosage forms are the mainstream, and their ingredients include silicone oil and fluorine compounds. In addition, some creams also incorporate waterproofing effects. When using these products, you need to choose a product that is suitable for the specific leather type (not the animal species, but the surface treatment state, such as suede, raw leather, painting, etc.) and make color fading, stains or patches inconspicuous test.
Summary <br>When you decide to devote yourself to care, there will be a lot of difference between care after understanding the information and necessary items you need to know in advance and care without knowing anything. Leather products are very delicate and there are differences in the way they are treated. Will directly affect the texture and color of leather. Just like taking a shower every day, wipe your leather products cleanly with a soft cloth every day!
Then, perform a monthly test application of care cream to make your leather products more attractive. Make your leather products full of love and unique with daily care habits and a monthly care cream treatment!
