Universal design initiated by people with visually impairments.
A bag that is easy for people with visually impairments to use is also exceptionally user-friendly for those who are not visually impaired.
Knowing where everything is located is what matters the most
This time, we conducted a web and in-person survey with 108 people with visually impairments. The survey results showed that the majority walk with a white cane, so we decided on a backpack that keeps both hands free.
Additionally, many people use pouches to organize their items when using a bag. Therefore, we designed the bag with 19 pockets to allow for better organization and tidiness.
An outer pocket capable of storing a white cane
The side pocket for carrying a white cane is equipped with a fall prevention strap.
The other pocket can hold a water bottle or a folding umbrella.
The strap can be detached as well.
A bottom card pocket that is compatible with IC touch
MetroCard, contactless payment and other features do not require removal from the bag.
For security and rain protection, there are two front pockets
Upper pocket
You can store important items like headphones, wallet, and keys that you frequently need to access quickly in the lower pocket.
From the perspective of rain protection and security, we have adopted a hidden zipper under the flap cover.
Lower pocket
The zipper is exposed for easy access, prioritizing ease of retrieval.
You can store items such as a handkerchief, laptop, reusable bag, tissues, and more.
There are two back pockets that can be accessed while wearing the bag on your back
You can take out items while wearing it on your back.
It's recommended for storing high-security items like wallets and keys.
D-ring for preventing key loss.
For storing coins and emergency medicine, there's a back pocket behind the shoulder belt
Ideal for storing small items like keys, medication, coins, etc., that you need quick access to.
Six pockets of different materials that allow you to distinguish items without visual inspection
Each pocket is made with a different material that has a distinct texture.
You can immediately know what's inside without visually checking.
You can store items such as a wallet, a disability ID card, headphones, and a glasses case.
It can store laptops with its large main pocket
It can accommodate cylindrical items such as foldable umbrellas and water bottles.
It also accommodates laptops, and documents. They are securely held in place with dedicated bands, ensuring safety even for delicate equipment.
It's approximately 39cm deep, allowing you to pack in your favorite items.
To reduce shoulder strain, there's a chest strap
With a chest strap that makes your load feel lighter and reduces strain. Its adjustable height allows you to carry it in a way that suits you best.
By widening the belt, the strain is further reduced.
Outstanding breathability with a mesh material back panel
The back panel uses a moisture-absorbing and breathable mesh material.
No maintenance required - waterproof leather.
Even if it gets wet in the rain, a simple wipe with a handkerchief is all it takes for easy maintenance. It's also scratch-resistant, making it suitable for active use.
Research Group on Fulfilling Life of the Visually Impaired
We, Hallelujah, in collaboration with the Research Committee (Yutakura Association), are working on a project to create a bag that is easy for people with the visual impairments to use. We have been dedicated to this project for about two years now to realize a rich life for people with the visual impairments.
After many trials and errors with samples, we have finally completed the YUTAKURA BP backpack.
